What is tooth whitening?
Tooth whitening lightens the natural colour of your teeth without damaging any of the tooth surface. It won’t completely change the colour of your teeth, but it will lighten the existing shade.
Why would I need my teeth whitened?
Our teeth become discoloured as we get older through staining on the surface from food and drink such as tea, coffee, red wine and blackcurrant. Smoking will also stain our teeth. Other reasons our teeth become stained can be; calculus and tartar buildup, staining under the surface caused by some antibiotics and tiny cracks in the teeth become stained.
What does tooth whitening involve?
We offer 2 whitening treatments:
This is the most common method of tooth whitening.
First we will take impressions to construct a custom fitted whitening tray for home use.
You then apply the whitening product to your teeth daily for 3-4 hours (or preferably overnight), using this specially made tray which fits into your mouth like a gum-shield.
It will take between 2-4 weeks to achieve a whiter smile. In cases of severe staining it may take longer.
If you want to see faster results we can offer our ‘ENLIGHTEN’ treatment:
ENLIGHTEN Teeth Whitening:
This is a combination of home whitening and in surgery whitening, which claims to get to B1 shade or brighter.

The results are usually quite dramatic and can often be up to 6 shades lighter.

ENLIGHTEN treatments:
Our ENLIGHTEN treatment offers fantastic value for money. You get a free consultation appointment, the ENLIGHTEN treatment appointment for only £675
If you are interested in either of these treatments please book your free assessment appointment on: 01737 350068
Please note: You cannot get whitening treatments on the NHS.
How long will my teeth stay whiter?
The effects of whitening can last up to three years. However, this will vary from person to person. The effect is less likely to last as long if you smoke, or eat or drink products that can stain your teeth. Ask us for our opinion before you start your treatment.
What about whitening toothpastes?
There are several whitening toothpastes on the market. Although they do not affect the natural colour of your teeth, they may be effective at removing staining and therefore may improve the overall appearance of your teeth.
Whitening toothpaste may also help the effect last, once your teeth have been professionally whitened.
We recommend that you look for our accreditation symbol on the packaging of oral care products. This is a guarantee that the claims made about the product have been scientifically and clinically checked by an independent panel of experts.
How can I look after my teeth once they have been whitened?
You can help to keep your teeth white by cutting down on the amount of food and drink you have that can stain teeth.
Don’t forget, stopping smoking can also help prevent discolouring and staining.
We recommend the following tips to care for your teeth:
brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste
cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks
and, of course, visit us for regular check ups.
